What is an energy efficient home?
Generally, a green home isn’t just one that is built with sustainable materials, but it is also energy efficient. You may have seen this home or that home certified as “green.” Any builder can put up a sign saying a home is green, but it doesn’t mean that the home is better for the environment than a similar home.
So how can a potential home buyer tell if a home is green?
There are several third parties that will verify that a home is green building. One way is to look for official certification. The National Green Building Standard (ICC 700 or “the Standard) is the only residential green building rating system that is approved by the American National Standards Insitute (ANSI). The ANSI green building standard is one such third party verifier. The ANSI certification is unique because it was developed using the consensus process. The ANSI certification helps create buildings that are good for owners, governments, builders, and the environment. Here at Knight West, we know construct all of our High Performance Homes™ as ANSI certified green homes.
