Building science teaches us that traditional building construction can result in the loss of energy and unnecessarily raise the cost of energy use. This science also tells us that the average home has 2 miles of cracks that result in energy loss as well as losing energy through outside wall studs just to mention a few concerns when using older methods of building. Knight West Homes through “green” building procedures deals with these and other weaknesses to save both energy and money and significantly reduce your utility bills, make your home more comfortable, livable, and healthy.

To Insure Energy Efficiency and a Healthy Home Environment:

• Each home has a passive Radon gas venting system. (Knight West Homes was recognized by the Department of Environmental Quality for building radon resistant homes).
• Basement floors are insulated with 2” rigid foam below the concrete floor.
• Outside walls are 2×6 construction.
• Each home has Tyvek ® Drain Wrap on all exterior framed walls.
• The outside of the home is wrapped with rigid foam to prevent loss of energy by conduction through studs.
• Cracks are sealed with a foam sealant throughout the entire home.
• All windows are Low E, high energy rated w/argon gas between the glass panes.
• All can lights are insulated.
• An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) is installed in each home drawing in outside air and expelling used inside air resulting in a healthier indoor environment.
• Air introduced into the home is filtered. This improves air quality and it reduces pollens and contaminants.
• Rim joists are insulated with an approx. R-value of 30.
• There is an Energy Heal on the Roof Trusses.
• Walls have a blown in bib insulation plus a 1” rigid foam board – this gives an approx. R-value of 30 in the total wall system.
• Ceilings have a blown in insulation with an approx R-value of 60.
• Two and three car garages are fully insulated including the steel garage doors.
• Basement walls are wrapped with an approx. R-value of 19.
• The home is equipped with a 95+ furnace with a combustible air supply and vent exhaust system.
• Air duct work is installed for high efficiency with all joints sealed.
• The manibloc plumbing system is energy efficient and user friendly.
• Each home has a 50 gallon water heater with an earth quake strap.
